Pupil Voice Groups at The Rofft
Criw Cymraeg
Our proactive and enthusiastic Criw Cymraeg are a true credit to our school. Meeting every Tuesday with Mrs Harrop our Welsh Lead, the group works collaboratively to plan, organise and lead a wide range of enriching activities that promote Welsh language and culture across the school.
Their initiatives this year have included a successful Dydd Santes Dwynwen cake sale where they raised a profit of £25, plus helped to organise successful, much enjoyed Home Eisteddfod Competitions where rosettes were proudly awarded. Judges for the Cookery Competition (no problems getting willing volunteers here), enjoyed sampling an array of beautifully presented Welsh-themed cakes and traditional bara brith. The winners entered Cluster competitions where our choir, led by Mrs. G Jones won first place.
Criw Cymraeg have also created an engaging wall display to celebrate winning entries, contributed ideas for Shwmae Sumae Day, and carefully selected music for Dydd Miwsig Cymru. Their sessions are full of energy and creativity, from playing Welsh Hangman using dictionaries, creating an enterprising event for our Christmas Fair – Guess the name of our Teddy (Lowri won) to confidently conducting Learning Walks alongside our link Governor and Athrawon Bro.
We extend our sincere thanks to our wonderful Athrawon Bro, Dwynwen Jones whose invaluable support has been instrumental in helping us achieve the Silver Award. Her dedication, enthusiasm and tireless commitment to promoting all things Welsh within our school have been exceptional. Diolch yn fawr iawn. Together, we have fostered a strong sense of pride in the Welsh language and culture throughout our school community.
Digital Ambassadors
Our dedicated Digital Ambassadors meet every Tuesday with Mr. A Cheung, our Digital Lead, to develop new skills while educating and guiding our school community on the importance of internet safety. Through eye-catching posters, informative wall displays and confidently delivered assemblies, they play a vital role in helping all pupils stay safe, responsible and informed online.
Their proactive approach is evident in the many initiatives they lead, from designing and creating Digital Ambassador badges to organising innovative enterprise projects for the Summer Fair, including highly popular 3D-printed merchandise which made a £306 profit. They continue to expand their expertise by exploring technologies such as Micro:bits and a range of digital applications, using this knowledge to support and coach their peers within the classroom.
Looking ahead, an exciting new initiative will see our Digital Ambassadors leading a lunchtime club, where they will coach other pupils in using Micro:bits, further strengthening their leadership and teaching skills. As part of our CWRE (Careers and Work-Related Experiences), we are proud to provide meaningful opportunities for all learners to develop confidence by sharing their skills, coaching both their peers and younger children.
School Council
Our hardworking School Council led by Mrs P-T and Mrs G. Jones, continues to be a source of great pride, showing dedication and a strong sense of responsibility in all they undertake. They play a central role in organising and hosting our Macmillan Coffee Morning, an event which consistently raises an impressive £500–£600 each year. From thoughtful planning and preparation to carefully counting donations, pupils take genuine ownership while supporting a highly worthwhile cause.
The team has also been instrumental in planning and delivering our well-attended Games Afternoons, warmly welcoming parents and members of the community into school. They carefully selected, purchased and organised a variety of games, as well as choosing refreshments to ensure an inclusive and enjoyable experience for all. We have now hosted two very successful afternoons, both of which saw strong engagement from our school community.
In addition, the School Council has embraced digital tools by creating Google Forms to invite pupils across the school to share their talents and interests, leading to the formation of pupil-led clubs. These clubs, launched last year, proved extremely popular, as reflected in the positive feedback gathered and displayed on the School Council’s wall display. The team has also designed School Council badges, while developing valuable coaching and leadership skills plus creating meaningful opportunities linked to CWRE (Careers and Work-Related Experiences).
Demonstrating maturity and a real sense of civic awareness, School Council members have recently written a formal letter to the Chair of Governors and Wrexham Local Authority to raise concerns about the condition of the school playground, including uneven surfaces and potholes. This authentic experience has provided a powerful context for purposeful writing, while empowering pupils to have a voice in matters that affect their daily school life.
Wellbeing Council
Our committed Wellbeing Ambassadors led by Mrs. L Jones play a pivotal role in promoting and celebrating our work with myHappymind across the school. They take great pride in sharing their knowledge and understanding, most notably through a thoughtfully created myHappymind display for parents, prospective families and governors. When discussing their learning, they speak with confidence, insight and genuine enthusiasm about the strategies they use in class to support positive mental health and wellbeing.
Easily recognisable by their lanyards, each Ambassador carries simple breathing techniques designed to support any child who may feel worried or overwhelmed on the playground. This visible and accessible approach ensures that help is always close at hand.
Peer support is a key strength of the group, with older Wellbeing Ambassadors offering guidance and reassurance to younger pupils in a kind, inclusive and respectful manner. Their approach fosters a nurturing environment and has a noticeably positive impact on the wellbeing of children across the school.
Building on the success of our wellbeing sessions, all pupils recently selected their favourite songs to help create an exciting Danceathon. The Wellbeing Ambassadors have taken ownership of this initiative by compiling, collating and analysing the class responses to identify the most popular choices. These favourite songs will now be played during breaktimes, making the most of the improving weather and encouraging active, joyful play. This initiative not only promotes physical wellbeing but also strengthens pupils’ sense of belonging and shared enjoyment across the school.
Eco Council
Thanks to the Eco Council’s forward-thinking initiatives, each Class Council representative has played an active role in conducting daily Walk to School surveys, promoting a healthier and more environmentally friendly start to the day. This initiative has been warmly embraced across the school, with many pupils earning badges in recognition of their commitment. Representatives of Eco-Council
have also invited parents to participate in a WWF Carbon Footprint survey during our Open Evening at the beginning of the year to highlight the importance of the impact our everyday decisions make.
The Eco Council has also encouraged positive lifestyle choices by designing and awarding badges to pupils who bring a healthy snack to school each day, helping to promote healthier habits across the school community.
In addition, the Eco Council has been instrumental in establishing our Kitchen Garden. They supported the purchasing of materials, plants and seeds, enabling each class to take responsibility for their own planter. This hands-on initiative has proven highly successful, with a plentiful harvest including cauliflower, peas, tomatoes, beetroot and cucumber. The produce has been thoughtfully used within school dinners and also sold at the Summer Fair as fresh salad packs, further reinforcing the importance of sustainability, teamwork and enterprise.
